La historia de esta legi\u00f3n en tierras de Hispania se inicia en las guerras c\u00e1ntabras. Sus insignias eran el Toro,el Carnero y el Capricornio.<!--more--> Estuvo bajo las \u00f3rdenes de los gobernadores de la tarraconense C. Antistius Vetus (27-24 a. C.),L. Aelius Lamio (24-22 a. C.),C. Furnius (22-19 a.C.) y P. Silius Nerva (19 a.C.). Parece ser que se acanton\u00f3 en Segisama Iulia (Sasam\u00f3n,provincia de Burgos) entre 19 a. C. y 13 a.C. y luego en Pisoraca (Herrera de Pisuerga,provincia de Palencia). Aunque para entonces,los veteranos de esta legi\u00f3n ya hab\u00edan fundado Caesaraugusta (Zaragoza),en la que la legi\u00f3n IIII Maced\u00f3nica tuvo un papel destacado por encima de las legiones VI y X. Tras la guerra,se dedic\u00f3 a labores de construcci\u00f3n de calzadas y puentes adem\u00e1s de recaudar impuestos y realizar levas.
